Producer Stu & I talk Chicken! From chicken shops to gourmet – what are your favourites? We’re particularly fans of wings, and lots of places do very good wings. If you have a favourite we haven’t tried, please let me know!
Curry is probably both mine and Stu’s favourite food and we eat it a lot. We also like to talk about it, a lot! We’re talking British Indian Curries here really; as ever, as Brits we take other people’s cuisines, bastardise it and because of the wonderful melting pot Great Britain is, create something uniquely British!
Here is the podcast of us talking curry, our favourite curries, our favourite places to go, and stories from growing up with curries as a central touchpoint to our lives.
So many places mentioned in the podcast, here they are in no particular order. Let me know if there are any places I’ve forgotten to mention.
I might have added some I forgot to mention in the podcast!
I get together with my editor Stu, to talk about one of our favourite subjects, burgers!
I’m always keen to find out about and try new burger places, so please let me know in the comments below, or via facebook or twitter what your favourite places are so I can try them out once this carnage ends!
Our top 5s are in the podcast, so I won’t spoil them here, but below are the links (in no particular order) to our favourite places, including a few honourable mentions.
With the lockdown firmly in place, I decided to get a takeaway to try out some of the local offerings in my neighbourhood.
Living in central London, I’m blessed with several hundred options, even allowing for Covid-19 closures. We went with the Rajdoot in Hampstead, the most highly rated Indian Restaurant in my area. It’s certainly not the cheapest, with the food (via Deliveroo) arriving well on time.
The menu can be found here and is extensive, with not only the usual curry house staples, but also quite a few unique dishes I’ve not seen on menus before. I’ve had 3 or 4 curries here before, and I particularly remember the Goan Mixed Delight being worth a try if you fancy something a bit off the usual track.
We enjoyed the food very much, but at almost £50 for two of us for 4 poppadoms, starters, mains, one rice, one nan and a side dish it does struggle a bit in the value department. Having said that, it is in Hampstead, so maybe a bit more reasonable for those who can afford to live there!
All in all, I recommend this place as worth an order, but there are cheaper places that are almost a good if your pocket doesn’t stretch this far in these straitened times.
With the current lcokdown, going out to restaurants is not possible. I wish everyone the best at this super difficult time, especially the hospitality workers who make this podcast possible.
I’ve decided to shake things up a bit and add a discussion podcast this time. There will be more as the lockdown allows! I’ll also be reviewing takeaways in my area, so stay tuned for those!
First up I’ll be talking pubs with my erstwhile editor Stu, where we talk food, drink and what makes a pub a pub!
Since this is a new podcast format feedback would be great, and check out the new intro!
I’ve been going to this restaurant since I started working in central London about 10 years ago. At the time it was a shining light of quality in a sea of pretty terrible places north of Mornington Crescent Station. I used to go for the lunchtime specials, which are great value, but this time I went to try the hotpot. I’d seen people eating it many times and it looked amazing, and finally I had chance to have a go myself.
Sushi Waka has quickly become my favourite sushi place, with reasonable prices, great quality and generous portions. The menu is extensive and all the dishes I tried have been really good
