Tibbles Nibbles Lockdown Edition – Curry

Curry is probably both mine and Stu’s favourite food and we eat it a lot. We also like to talk about it, a lot! We’re talking British Indian Curries here really; as ever, as Brits we take other people’s cuisines, bastardise it and because of the wonderful melting pot Great Britain is, create something uniquely British!

Here is the podcast of us talking curry, our favourite curries, our favourite places to go, and stories from growing up with curries as a central touchpoint to our lives.

So many places mentioned in the podcast, here they are in no particular order. Let me know if there are any places I’ve forgotten to mention.

I might have added some I forgot to mention in the podcast!

Tibble Nibbles Episode 38 – Rajdoot Takeaway

With the lockdown firmly in place, I decided to get a takeaway to try out some of the local offerings in my neighbourhood.

Living in central London, I’m blessed with several hundred options, even allowing for Covid-19 closures. We went with the Rajdoot in Hampstead, the most highly rated Indian Restaurant in my area. It’s certainly not the cheapest, with the food (via Deliveroo) arriving well on time.

The menu can be found here and is extensive, with not only the usual curry house staples, but also quite a few unique dishes I’ve not seen on menus before. I’ve had 3 or 4 curries here before, and I particularly remember the Goan Mixed Delight being worth a try if you fancy something a bit off the usual track.

We enjoyed the food very much, but at almost £50 for two of us for 4 poppadoms, starters, mains, one rice, one nan and a side dish it does struggle a bit in the value department. Having said that, it is in Hampstead, so maybe a bit more reasonable for those who can afford to live there!

All in all, I recommend this place as worth an order, but there are cheaper places that are almost a good if your pocket doesn’t stretch this far in these straitened times.
